Your safety comes first!
While there is no right way to respond to street harassment, the most important thing is to put your own safety and sense of security first. Street harassment is never your fault. However you choose to respond to it is the right option for you. That being said, research has shown that taking action can have a positive influence on your emotional response. Here are some resources that may be helpful.

Police (Scotland)
If you are in immediate danger call 999. You can also report harassment after the event. Make sure you note down time, location and a description of what happened.
Support organisations
RCS is the national office for the rape crisis movement in Scotland. Their free helpline is open every day between 6 pm and midnight to support anyone in Scotland affected by sexual violence. Call 08088 01 03 02.
For anyone who’s struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgment or pressure. Samaritans is not only for the moment of crisis, they are taking action to prevent the crisis. They give people ways to cope and the skills to be there for others. Call 116 123.
Galop runs a specialist helpline for LGBT+ people who have experienced hate crime, domestic abuse or sexual violence. Call 0800 999 5428.
Provides confidential information, advice and support for people who have experienced rape and sexual violence.
Women’s Aid is a grassroots federation working together to provide life-saving services in England and build a future where domestic abuse is not tolerated. Services in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are operated by sister federations.
